How sure
Rung 1 · UnprovenLab or animal data only, or never directly tested in people.

The rung shows how sure the science is, not how big the effect is. How to read these ratings

Cancers affected

None

What the evidence shows

No study in people has been published, and the National Cancer Institute found too little in patient records to justify a trial. The theory behind it, that tiny living particles in the blood called somatids cause cancer, has no support, and unpublished animal tests found no effect. The FDA hasn't approved it for any use.

What to do

Don't use it in place of treatment.
